Protests continue to sweep across Assam in response to the sharp rise in electricity tariffs and the installation of smart meters. On Wednesday, a demonstration took place in Kokrajhar town and Gossaigaon, spearheaded by the Kokrajhar District Congress Committee (KDCC) with support from various block committees across the district.

The protest saw a large gathering of people who surrounded the Sub-Divisional office of the electricity department. Demonstrators voiced their strong discontent against the Assam government’s recent policies, particularly the introduction of smart meters, which they claim has led to an unjustifiable increase in electricity costs. Slogans were chanted vehemently, reflecting the public’s growing dissatisfaction with the state’s electricity department.

KDCC President Prem Hasda, while addressing the media, expressed the people’s frustrations, stating that the government’s move to install smart meters and raise electricity tariffs without considering the financial burden on the common man is unacceptable. He further mentioned that the protests will continue until the government takes steps to address the concerns of the citizens.
